Peroxide Muffins

This post has been a multiple day project... and no, I didn't really make peroxide muffins but I did endeavor to clean my muffin tins with peroxide.  Peroxide and baking soda to be exact.  I had a link on one of my Pinterest boards of all sorts of things you can do with peroxide.  However, when I was looking at it again one day recently it starting giving me some virus pop-ups so I deleted the pin.  I was able to glean a few ideas, though and this was one of them.  It was originally for baked on food but my muffin tins had gotten horribly rusty so I decided to try it.

Here is a before picture:

Pretty nasty, huh?

My Secret Weapons:

I made a paste with the baking soda and peroxide then tested it on the bottom, just to make sure it was going to be ok!

It worked great so I used what I had left on the top.

Much improvement!
However, it needed to sit longer and it was going to take some elbow grease as well.

Hubby sprayed the pan with Pam cooking spray to help seal it from anymore rust
before I could get back to it again.

A few days later I had a chance to go back and try again.

After almost 2 hrs it was really getting bubbly!
I let it sit close to 3 hrs total I believe.

It definitely took some elbow grease as well but they look much better!
Not perfect but improved.

I'm sure I will still use muffin cups when I bake but I feel better knowing they are cleaner!
I will probably do another coat of Pam cooking spray as a sealant.

I have had two Pinterest projects in the works.  One is still in the works but I have one that I'm excited to share with you tonight!  And it involves these potatoes:

I got this 5 lb bag of potatoes at Hy-Vee for 88 cents today!  Score!

For supper tonight I decided to make a Twice Baked Potato Casserole.

To start with I peeled and cut up about half this bag of potatoes.  Then while I took a nursing break Hubby boiled them.  After I got done nursing DS and the potatoes had cooked about 20 mins. I drained & mashed them up and began cooking some bacon (it would have saved time if I had cooked the bacon while the potatoes were cooking but you know, when a baby is hungry they're hungry!).

To the mashed potatoes I added:
4 oz cream cheese
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup sour cream
a few chives
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 1/2 strips of bacon
a little salt & pepper

Mix well.

I put this yummy looking mixture in a buttered 2-qt baking dish and put more cheese on top.

Baked at 350 for 30 mins (basically until the cheese is melted and starting to get brown)

Once done I garnished with 2 1/2 strips of bacon.

This recipe was originally pinned from sixsistersstuff.com.

Here's my plate:

Sloppy joes using my mother-in-law's recipe (super easy: hamburger, can of chicken gumbo (undrained), couple tablespoons of brown sugar and some ketchup)
Twice Baked Potato Casserole
Watermelon (DD's request)

It was really yummy!  Hubby added more butter to his casserole and said it was really good.
I didn't and wondered if maybe I should have put in more salt but overall it was really good.
Plus, I surprised hubby with his mom's sloppy joes, which he really likes!!

Have a blessed Saturday evening and a wonderful Sunday tomorrow!
Hope to be back tomorrow with my other project.  It has to do with peroxide...
(sounds exciting, huh?!  :) )

An Experiment to Start an Experiment

Hey Everyone!

My name is Holly Ridenour and I am conducting an experiment to start a series of experiments.

When I was in school I loved English/Writing and those types of subjects.  I took a writing course via mail in my early'ish to mid-20's.  It was fun but after getting married my focus drifted off of writing a little.  Now as a "young" mother with two young children, who shall be affectionately referred to as Dear Daughter (DD) and Dear Son (DS) I still enjoy writing but have a stronger focus on taking care of my family.  I must admit I am a horrible housekeeper and a sometimes inpatient mother but I want to do things that make our home more organized and myself a "funner" Mom.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the phenomenon called Pinterest.  I go to Pinterest and I dream.  On Pinterest I do cool things, travel cool places, keep my home perfectly clean & organized, wear cool clothes, celebrate every holiday in perfect style.  I am also the perfect wife and mother, with special emphasis on both children and what would be fun "mother-child" times with them.   Additionally my home is decorated gorgeously on a cheap budget and each season is fully appreciated.  Basically on Pinterest I am perfectly cool!  But aren't we all?!

One of my goals this year was to actually do the things I have pinned.  A high and lofty goal, I know but that's where this blog comes in.  I also want to take pictures and post blogs of things I do.  And hopefully frequently.

So, this blog is an experiment to kick off many experiments from Pinterest that will ideally help my home be the place I want it to be.

See ya later!
